Barbera Utility Contracting, Inc. dba: Horizontal Holes and Horizontal Equipment Manufacturing, Inc. (H.E.M.I.) are owned by Leo Barbera. Often referred to as one of the pioneers of Auger Boring, Leo brings 40 years of experience to the field. Leo was the co-founder of American Augers, Inc. and the founder of Horizontal Holes and H.E.M.I. Throughout his career Leo has been instrumental in advancing trenchless technologies with continuous research and development. Mr. Barbera has also been actively involved on various publications throughout the Underground Construction industry. Additionally, he instructs and lectures at various educational seminars and training schools.

Horizontal Holes specializes in Horizontal Auger Boring under highways, railroads, runways, and pretty much any kind of obstruction in the path of a utility line. We strive at providing a "one-stop" solution to your underground utility installation problems. We can install pipelines from 1/2 in. to 10 ft in diameter. H.E.M.I specializes in building equipment for horizontal earth boring including line and grade steering systems, boring machines, large diameter boring attachments (LDBA) and so on. We carry a complete line of Large Diameter Boring Attachments, from 36-inch to 84-inch, offering hydraulic and electric powered machines. We carry a complete line of augers with rock & dirt cutting heads. We also rebuild or trade used machines. We have a new style of rock head that will out-cut and out-last the competitors.
